About the NBA Finals

Can the Golden State Warriors defend their title, or will the Toronto Raptors knock the reigning champion off the throne? The answer is the NBA Finals 2019 between the respective winners of the Western and Eastern Conference.

When will the NBA Finals begin?

The finals started in the night of May 31st and will be over by June 16th. On this date match 7 will take place, unless the champion has already been determined.

Where can I watch the NBA Finals live?

The NBA Finals 2019 are not shown on free TV, but the streaming portal DAZN has secured the broadcasting rights. The so-called “Netflix des Sports” shows all games of the finals live and on demand with German commentary.

In addition, the other top US leagues NFL, MLB and NHL can also be seen live on DAZN. The offer also includes top soccer such as the Champions League or Premier League. It is possible to test DAZN free of charge for one month. Afterwards the streaming service costs 9.99 Euro per month.

Which mode is used?

As in the previous playoff rounds, the NBA Finals 2019 will also be played in best-of-seven format. The teams will therefore compete for the crown in the best basketball league in the world in a maximum of seven matches. The team that wins the first four games will be allowed to raise the Larry-O’Brien Trophy.

The respective winners of the Western and Eastern Conference qualify for the finals. The home advantage is on the team’s side, which can show a better balance in the regular season.

NBA Finals 2019: Warriors in fifth consecutive season

The Golden State Warriors qualified for the finals after a clear 4-0 sweep against Portland Trail Blazers. This is the fifth time in a row that the Californian team has qualified – a feat no other team had achieved since the legendary Boston Celtics of the 1960s.

Golden State has won three of the last four titles and now wants to secure the crown for the fourth time. This time, they will have to defeat the Toronto Raptors, who will be in the franchise for the very first time in their history.

While the Raptors focus on Kawhi Leonard with an average of 31.2 points in the playoffs, the Warriors had to give up Kevin Durant who was suffering from a calf injury. Instead the Splash Brothers around Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry should guarantee the success for the Dubs.

How the first games of the NBA Finals went

In game 1, however, this was not enough. Although the head chef put on 34 points, Golden State simply couldn’t stop Toronto. Pascal Siakam, in particular, made a strong final debut and led the Canadians to a 118-109 victory in the opening game.

In the second game, however, the Warriors made an impressive comeback and won 109-104 in Toronto, but had to cope with an injury from Klay Thompson. He dropped out in game 3, the Warriors had to admit defeat with 109:123 despite a Fabelleleistung of Curry. Also game 4 went with 92:105 to the Raptors, Toronto was now missing only one victory to win the title.

For game 5 in Toronto, however, Kevin Durant was fit again on the Warriors’ side. The two-time final MVP celebrated his comeback after a four-week break and was able to convince in the first minutes – but then he injured himself again. Durant is now likely to be out for a long time with an injury to the Achilles tendon.

Despite this harsh shock, the Warriors still managed a narrow 106:105 victory. Thus the Dubs prevented the Raptors from celebrating their championship prematurely. In game 6 in Oakland, they now have the chance again to bag the first championship in franchise history.
